Healthy Living

After surviving from several fatal sicknesses, I decided to fully investigate the various aspects of human health issues and gone through a year of rehabilitation courses on heart problems, diet and proper exercise. I have completed an extensive review of literature on various health issues.

The selected material presented is abstracted by the various leading U.S. government and civilian organizations that conduct research using large populations under controlled conditions for appropriate periods. These included CDC, a U.S. federal prime authority, other government and civilian organizations, including hospitals, and nutritional, and physical health centers.

Selected information from alternate medicines, remedies and treatment is also included. The selection is based upon my non-medical views, but judgment is based upon my physics and engineering background. It must be viewed as guidelines, but on serious illness one must consult the doctor. However, use of this information can be helpful in discussion to achieve better medical diagnosis.

This activity has helped me in terms of health even at the age of over 7 million hours and given me incentive to modify my lifestyle. I believe it will be very informative and helpful to other family members.

1. Life Style Benefits

In the past two decades we humans have made unbelievable advances in technology and medical sciences. Technology has made our physical work much easier, life more comfortable and enjoyable. Medical research has given improved understanding of the complex nature of our body parts and their functions and their nutrition needs. There is better knowledge for treatment of various diseases. Consequently that has resulted in longer lifespan and availability of numerous medical products for rapid treatment of many diseases and associated discomforts.

2. Life Style Perils

America is the most advanced country in the world medically and otherwise, yet millions of Americans suffer or die each year due to diseases such as heart failure, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetics, cancer and Alzheimer, etc. This is only partly due to inherited defective genes, but mostly due to the modern lifestyle.

The technological advances through automation have made us physically inactive. The rapidly advancing information technology have reduced person human contacts and over stimulates our senses with excessive use of electronics, home TY and online entertainment. We consume more processed foods, over indulge in unhealthy foods prepared for taste over nutrition. Our body is exposed to harmful chemicals contained in many products used in homes.

3. Generally Recognized Health Factors

Due to these many perils to health, clearly we need a different approach and more attention to preventative measures. There are four generally accepted factors for lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, sleep and mental stress. However, there is great complexity involved when implementing these general factors for good health. This requires a detailed review. Note that these factors are common with the lifestyle of early hunter-gather societies, as discussed in the below Section I-4.

4. Sugan Sath Health Factors

In my view there are seven factors affecting our health an dwelfare. Of these four are known since earlier times and have been reassessed by modern research. They

1. understanding of body functions and its nutritional needs;

2. acceptance of the problems at hand and no denial; and

3. a chapter out of Vedic Science of holistic view of union of body-mind-and spirit (i.e., complete humans).

This approach promotes rejuvenation of body cells to provide many health benefits. In my view that is equivalent to bio-feedback system used for healing.

The object of Aurveda is to maintain health of the healthy by preventing actions and alleviate diseases of the diseased. In practice, that implies meditation (i.e., concentration in Smadhi Pose- spine stretched to permit more nutrients in joints) to reduce stress, promote restful sleep.
